Future Videogames Hackathon, a call open to Programmers, 2D/3D Artists, Game Designers and Sound Designers

1 August 2022

12 hours, 100 participants divided into teams, a theme revealed only on the day of the competition. These are the first ingredients of the Future Videogames Hackathon, a competition between game developers to be held on 1 October 2022 at Laboratorio Aperto in Modena, during the Future Film Festival.

The Festival joins forces for the occasion with the PowerUpTeam, a cooperative society of Italian videogames from Bologna, and a group of young engineers from the Modena-based Orbital Games and Smart Life Festival.

The participation is open to: Programmers, 2D/3D Artists, Game Designers and Sound Designers. No particular experience is required and no software or programming language will be precluded.

The call for application will be open until a maximum of 100 positions are filled. Participants will then be divided into teams of 6.

To participate, all you have to do is enter your data in the registration form, where you will also have to indicate your area of expertise and whether you are registering as an individual or as part of an already existing team.

Following registration, you will have access to the Future Videogames Hackathon Discord channel, where you will be able to ask questions and start matchmaking before the event.

When a new team is formed, it is mandatory to communicate it. If not, members will be considered single participants and will be put together directly at the beginning of the Future Videogames Hackathon. If by the time the event starts there are people without a team, the organisers will proceed to insert them independently into new teams until the maximum limit is reached.

The duration of the event will be from 9 am to midnight, for 12 uninterrupted hours of video game developing. The theme will be kept secret until the start of the Hackathon. The three finalists will get prizes and awards to be revealed closer to the date of the event.

Future Videogames Hackathon aims to give developers a new opportunity to get noticed, to do networking and to learn how to work together as a team, as well as to challenge them to create a project in just 12 hours.
